ITK OR PEDANT: CHECKOUT THE WORD FOR TODAY



This is the first article in a series of "know your English vocabularies" campaign for better communication. The various definitions of the word "pendant" are as follows;

Pedant /ˈpednt/ Noun

A person who is excessively concerned with minor details and rules or with displaying academic learning.
synonyms: dogmatist, purist, literalist, formalist, doctrinaire, perfectionist... (Google)

pedant: one who acts in the role as teacher/lecturer, often without invitation. Usually considered pejorative.
Check out that dude over there: he's a a pedant. If you say the word 'grape', he'll be talking about wine for a long, long time (Urban Dictionary)

A person who makes an excessive or inappropriate display of learning. 2. a person who overemphasizes rules or minor details. 3. a person who adheres rigidly to book knowledge without regard to common sense. (dictionary.reference.com)

PEDANT. 1. obsolete : a male schoolteacher. 2. a : one who makes a show of knowledge (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
